Client Spotlight: The Children’s Inn at NIH

There’s no place like home, but there is a place just like it: The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health.

Children who reside at The Inn suffer from rare, often life-threatening illnesses. They come from all over the world to receive care and participate in life-saving medical research at the NIH. While undergoing treatment at the NIH, The Inn serves as an environment where children can be children, not patients. The Inn was also designed as a place of normalcy for families trying to balance work, travel, and other burdens. The Inn provides meals, a place to sleep, entertainment, and other home-like amenities and comforts -- all at no cost to children and their families.

How do they do it?

A nonprofit, The Children’s Inn at NIH relies solely on individual and corporate contributions in order to provide a “place like home” to residents and their families.  Fundraising this year has been even more urgent, as The Inn suffered extensive roof damage in August 2018 which limited its capacity to house families on-site.  Despite this major setback, The Inn has continued to fulfill its mission and found apartments near the NIH campus or hotel rooms to house the families who could not stay at the Inn -- at no charge to them.

Since 2010, Sage has had the pleasure and privilege of helping to plan and raise awareness for The Children’s Inn at NIH's Evening for Hope Gala, which is the single largest fundraising event for The Inn. Executive leadership at Sage also supports The Inn’s efforts by lining up donations for the live and silent auctions, as well as conducting outreach for sponsors and attendees.

Sage is supporting the 2019 Evening for Hope Gala and is working with leaders from the Inn and planning committee to drive awareness of the event through media relations and social media counsel. The committee's efforts has once again put the Gala on the path to reach new fundraising records.
